(SER) Balkan Congress of Freight Forwarders Began in Belgrade
Date: May 18, 2007 Serbia as a "corridor country" still needs to continue investing in the finishing of transportation infrastructure in order to stimulate the economic development and increase the employment and competitiveness of the economy, said yesterday former President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (http://pks.komora.net) and now the Minister of Agriculture (www.minpolj.sr.gov.yu) Slobodan Milosavljevic. The freight forwarders are essential part of the chain between the production and final consumers and Serbia, as a central country of the region, has not utilized enough this sector of the economy, said Milosavljevic at the opening of the Eight Balkan Congress of Freight Forwarders. The Congress gathered around 200 participants from Serbia and 11 countries of the region. The President of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) (www.fiata.com) Manfred Boes reminded that this organization gathered around 56.000 freight forwarding companies which employ between 8 and 10 million people. German logistic industry realized the income of 180 billion EUR during last year alone or 8 % of the gross domestic product, emphasized Boes. The logistic incomes in the European Union made between nine and 10 % of the GDP. The representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania, Bulgarian, Romania, Greece, Turkey and Moldavia participate in the work of the two-day Congress.
