Shortage of electricity in Balkans becomes alarming
Presscut - Montenegrian Newsmonitor/Media Net d.o.o. November 28, 2007
Director of the Greek branch of the company EFT Athanasios Karachalios says that the countries in southeast Europe will be lacking 15-20 percent of electricity a year unless they build new power plants in the next few years. EFT is the leading electricity distributor in the SEE region. In 2007 it covered more than half of the electrical energy import to Greece, which is dependent on import, as the majority of Balkan countries. Karachalios believes the situation with the shortage of electricity on the Balkans has become alarming after the shutting down of the third and fourth blocks of the Bulgarian nuclear power plant Kozloduj late in 2006.
