SARAJEVO TO HOST THE 9TH BALCINET SUMMIT

NOVI SAD, December 2 (FENA) – The city of Sarajevo is to host the following summit of Balkans Cities Network, which is to take place in 2008, the BALCINET session participants decided on Sunday at a meeting held in Novi Sad (Serbia) on Sunday. Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo Predrag Mitrovic has been symbolically presented the flag of Balkan cities network. In this way, the City of Sarajevo took over presidency of the association. Mitrovic expressed interest of the City of Sarajevo to gain access to the European programs which finance the development of local communities. He also called the mayors of Balkan cities to develop economic and cultural cooperation. He stated that the arrival of mayors of Balkan cities to the 9th summit that will take place in Sarajevo will be a sign of support to BiH and the City of Sarajevo in the process of Euro-Atlantic associations. The Mayor of Solon, Vassilios Papageorgopoulos, who initiated the BALCINET formation eight years ago, expressed conviction that the Sarajevo summit will be the best organized so far. He called the participants of the conference to actively prepare for the period that is to follow, in which the European monetary funds will be implemented directly through cities, not through states as has been the case so far.
