CMA CGM Considers Route to Montenegrin Port of Bar
Business Digest December 2, 2007
Republika (Montenegro) CMA CGM, one of the world's leading companies in container shipping, is considering possibilities to open a shipping line through Montenegro's port of Bar, Luka Bar, as a logistics centre for the western Balkans, Montenegrin media reports showed. CMA CGM expressed interest in cooperation with Luka Bar at a recent meeting, said the chairman of the Montenegrin company, Predrag Ivanovic, but did not elaborate. The global shipping company has established routes to Adriatic ports in Croatia, an ex-Yugoslav state like Montenegro. Container shipments from Italy and Malta are handled at the Croatian port of Split. It also recently reconnected the Croatian port of Rijeka to international shipping networks via feeder services to Malta. Montenegro's key port has also recently held talks with the authorities of the German port of Hamburg on possible cooperation in view of the need for modernisation of the equipment and know-how, including the development of human resources, at Luka Bar. www.republika.cg.yu
