Internet Penetration in Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia Rises Table

SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 5 (SeeNews) - Internet penetration and broadband access by the number of households in Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia has grown n 2007, Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat) data showed. Broadband connections in EU increased to 42% this year from 30% in 2006. Although on the rise, Internet penetration in the southeast European countries is still below that in central Europe. The number of Internet connections in Romania, with a population of 22 million, rose by 80% to 3.3 million last year. Internet penetration rate in Bulgaria, with a population of 7.7 million, is expected to reach 45% by 2010. The number of Slovenian households using Internet rose by 6.0 percent points on the year to some 350,000 households in 2006, data of Slovenian statistic office showed. Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union in January. Slovenia became an EU member in May 2004.
