LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), December 18 (SeeNews) - Slovenian power exchange Borzen and Eurex, the international derivatives exchange, said on Tuesday they will jointly launch a spot power market for the Southeastern European region from January 1. They said they aim to establish the leading regional cross-border power exchange with a spot market for power and gas.
Initially Borzen will hold a 51% stake in the joint venture, called SouthPool, and Eurex will own 49%. The joint venture aims to include a wide range of partners from the region and is open to further shareholders, they said in a joint statement.
The nucleus of the new exchange will be Borzen and Eurex will contribute its expertise in trading and clearing infrastructure.
Eurex is one of the world's largest derivatives exchanges, jointly owned and operated by Deutsche Börse AG and SWX Swiss Exchange.
