190,000 Tourists Got Familiar with Old Balkan Crafts at Etur Museum in 2007
Gabrovo, December 23 (BTA) - In 2007, a total of 190,000 tourists visited Etur, Bulgaria's only open-air museum complex situated near Garbovo, getting familiar with the old crafts and customs of the Balkans, the museum management said. The foreign visitors were 25,000, coming mainly from France, Germany, Russia, Israel and Spain. Etur has 22 craftsmen, who demonstrate "live" their mastery in silver- and goldsmithery, weaving, cutlery making, bell-making, pottery, braid-making. The sweet shop makes lokum (Turkish Delight ) khalva (a dessert made of sunflower seed), small cakes and lollies. In the cafe they serve Turkish coffee with a teaspoon of the so-called "white jam" (prepared from glucose, sugar and water and flavoured with vanilla) and a glass of water. The buns one can buy from the baker's are famed as the most delicious ones in the country.
